  • Jordi Alba came off the bench on August 3 for his long-awaited Inter Miami debut
  • He reunited with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets
  • Inter Miami beat Orlando City on Alba's debut to reach the Leagues Cup round of 16

Jordi Alba has begun a new life in the United States with Inter Miami after years in his home country of Spain - and he couldn't be more grateful for the reception on his debut.

The left-back came off the bench in the 64th minute as a replacement for Noah Allen with the scores at 2-1 and saw off the rest of the game, with Lionel Messi scoring his second and the team's third to make it 3-1.

Alba joined his former Barcelona teammates, Messi and Sergio Busquets, in Florida after ending his 11 years of association with La Blaugrana when his contract expired last summer.

Alba admitted he declined lucrative offers from other clubs to move to the MLS, stating he felt important after Inter Miami showed urgency and agency in their efforts to sign him.

Alba reacts after Miami debut

The 34-year-old was greeted to a loud cheer when his name was announced as he was making his way onto the pitch, doing his traditional jump before going on.

Alba took his elation to social media after the game and is raring to go for more games after a victory on his debut.

He wrote on Twitter, translated as follows:

"Great night; very happy to start this new challenge with an important victory for the team and for the warm welcome from the people. Thank you Miami, we continue!"

The UEFA Champions League winner will hope for a start in the next game against FC Dallas, similar to how his former mates were eased into the team.

Rick Ross attends Messi's game

Sports Brief also reported on Messi scoring a brace for Miami in the presence of American hip-hop star, Rick Ross, who joined a list of celebrities to attend a game since the Argentine moved to America.

The Argentine veteran's debut had the most celebs in attendance, with LeBron James, Serena Williams, Kim Kardashian, and Tom Brady present to witness his first kick of the ball in the US league.
